Dan, I am 48 years old and have been playing guitar for a few years. I have learned enough open chords, bar chords & power chords to play along with some of my favorite songs with a little instruction from other guitar players.
I have really wanted to learn the guitar, not just a few songs, with a vision of some day playing lead guitar. I’ve tried a few online programs and many individual lessons and I did learn how to play songs as instructed but I did not gain an understanding of the techniques needed to develop my skills.
I read about 6 Minute Guitar and thought I would give it a try. DVD’s 1 – 10 helped me understand & expand on what I have learned so far in my journey but when I go to DVD’s 11 & 12 that’s when the breakthrough happened.
DVD 11 – Learn major scale in all seven positions, in all 12 keys, over the entire fretboard.
DVD 12 Learn the seven modes and for good reason.
Learning the theory of the Major scales in all seven positions, in all 12 keys, across 4 or 5 frets and having your demonstration played out on the screen has been a tremendous help! It’s great to be able to replay those parts until I am ready to move on. If only real live instructors came with pause & rewind buttons.
Now as I play all the scales I can hear the notes to the songs that I have been wanting to play. Once I find one note I use the WWHWWWH method on one string then play it in the proper mode and the next thing you know I am playing lead guitar! Wholly cow!!!
I’ve been working on 6 Minute Guitar for about 5 months to get this far and there is so much more to learn on the remaining DVDs but I am considering Nitro Guitar as my next purchase.
