Lance Vallis, originally from Long Island, NY, began playing the guitar at the age of 15. He moved from New York to Massachusetts to attend Berklee College of Music. There he joined the band Banter, a group whose sound combined '90s alterna-rock angst with classic rock harmonies.
After leaving the group, Lance pursued a variety of different projects. As time went on, he became interested in learning jazz guitar. This interest led him to late night jam sessions in New York City with an attempt to develop his jazz guitar playing skills. Eventually, Lance landed a gig playing with the notable Boston jazz musician Sonny Watson.
In a pursuit for something different, Lance joined a band Savin Ill, a hip-hop group that fused funk, soul and rock. The band has opened for notable hip-hop performers like Kool G Rap, Inspectah Deck and Cappadonna.
When he’s not playing shows, Lance has been teaching at several studios and schools in the Greater Boston Area, including Boston College High School in Dorchester, Robinson Music in Westborough and The Music Emporium in Lexington. Lance has taught students ranging in age from seven years to adult a variety of different styles, including rock, blues, and jazz.
Since 2011, Lance has moved to Portland, OR where he is pursuing a degree in Music and Jazz studies at the Portland State University.
