Here’s What You’ll Discover In Music Theory in 60 Minutes or Less

  • 1 simple and effective way to memorize the seven notes of the musical alphabet (A, B, C, D, E, F, G). So you can play songs faster using sheet music or tabs.
  • How to play the 12 notes of the chromatic scale on the 6th string. So you can easily visualize the fretboard.
  • Why notes on the fretboard can have two different names (like F# = Gb) and can be played on different strings. Which means, you’ll be able to play songs in any key signature.
  • How sharps (#) and flats (b) are used in chords and scales.
  • How to play the same note on multiple strings. So you don’t get “stuck” playing in one position and have the freedom to move up and down the guitar neck.
  • The critical difference between chromatic, diatonic and pentatonic scales, and how they’re all related. So you can create killer guitar solos, no matter what style you play.

It's good video. It covers everything I need to know but it could use some chapters because it's hard to stop and then come back to the next day. I still highly recommend it.

This course is a good overview of music theory for beginner guitar players. It offers beginners the foundation needed to put certain concepts (chords, chord progressions, scales, etc.) in context as they learn their way around the fretboard.

Self taught, been playing for 48 years, I had an some idea of theroy, (keys, chords and such). This course made it so easy to understand how one action works with the next and that theroy is not something you have to spend hours on understanding just a few simple patterns and bam you can master theroy. I have recommend this and other courses to fellow musicians.

I play piano so I kind of breezed through to see what was covered. It is a very good course to develop a basic understanding of theory.

I got this video as part pf a package deal.

First the bad - I see that's it's priced at $67 (on sale - wink, wink). Don't buy it. You can learn this info for free anywhere on youtube. It is also titled in a misleading way. A more appropriate title would be "Intro to Intro to Music Theory". It's very basic - chromatic scale, notes on the fretboard, major scale structure, a chord is made of three notes, etc.

Now the good. Steve is an excellent instructor. There are probably plenty of people who have learned how to play basic chords on the guitar and can chord-through lots of songs, but don't really know what they're doing. This is good info for them. It's also good for the absolute beginner, although I still couldn't recommend paying for it.

Simple, enlightening, motivating. Some of the best qualities required in teaching, The segment is perhaps a little bit pricey, but also very well explained. So, I can only recommend it to everyone who is beginning to understand music theory. I can't wait to start Music Theory For Life Masterclass, which I already purchased as well! Rock on, professor Steve! 😉

Steve is great at mitigating fear in any guitar player. I consider myself an intermediate level player after 52 years of mainly self-teaching journey. Explaining the theory in a practical "move your fingers 3 frets left to reach the major pentatonic from minor" is a great example. Unfortunately, I will have to leave the course on the shelf for the next month or two but look forward to a disciplined learning after that.

Really good, straightforward introduction to basic Music Theory. Steve is such a chilled tutor who takes the stress, fear and tedium out of learning. If you've ever wanted to take your guitar playing more seriously and to another level, but have been daunted at the zillions of books and videos out there, get Steve in your life - you won't be disappointed!

Hi Guys, about the course I bought, Music Theory in 60 mins. or less. I’ve been learning from Steve’s free lessons now for about 18 months, and I ‘ve watched hundreds of them. Steve is without doubt the most talented and charismatic person I have come across, both as a musician, and most of all, as a fantastic guitar tutor. I have to say that I’m not in any way gay, but I absolutely love the man. The manner in which he conducts each lesson, the enthusiasm he shows, it’s obvious that he really cares about what he’s teaching, and wants us his students to do as well as we can. He is so sincere.
The best thing about this course, in my opinion, is how carefully and easily he explains about the make up of chords and the tricks that go to helping how to remember the notes throughout the fretboard. A light really went on when he showed that we can use the same formula to find and play the chord from the root note, anywhere on the keyboard. It’s so simple now that I know that using this principle, I can now play the 6/7 chords made up from any root note, anywhere on the fretboard. That is the most incredible piece of information I have ever been given. I’m 73 years of age, and have been playing guitar on and off ( a lot of off ) just accompanying myself singing at home etc.. since I was 12. Until this lesson I have always had to get the chord book out to find chords that I didn’t know ( I’m not talking about complex chords, but all major and minor chords ). UNBELIEVEABLE I will never have to look them up again. I can’t really tell you what that means to me guys. The course was worth it for that fact alone.Thank you so much for all the fantastic lessons Steve. I’m afraid that being a pensioner in the U.K. means I’m not able to afford to buy anywhere near as much course work as you and I would both like, so I’ll have to be content with the hundreds of free lessons that you have on Youtube. Thank heaven there are lots of them and they are absolutely brilliant. Love watching them. Thanks once again. Keep smiling-Keep well-Keep positive and Keep up the excellent job you’re doing your. Bye for now from your friend and grateful student in Farndon, near Chester, England, Dave Lomax.

I have been watching Steves you tube videos and felt this would be a great addition to my catalog of learning tools. What can be said about Steve that you haven't already read, he does absolutely have a great gift to dumb the guitar down and bring it down to a level I can understand. I do appreciate all that Steve and the crew at guitar zoom do to bring these videos to the masses.
But to be honest It wouldn't be fair if I didn't say that I was a little disappointed when I found out the the theory class in 60 minutes or less was less I would have liked that last 15 minutes. It's like watching a great movie or show you just don't want it to end. Thank you Steve and Guitar Zoom?

Steve is one of the warmest online teachers I have had the pleasure of utilizing. Even though I have never met Steve, I almost feel like we're friends, as his teaching methods are so warm and friendly. I do believe he truly cares and it shows in his presentation. I have learned so much from the lessons I have purchased. I do commend Steve for placing plenty of free lessons out there, as that's how I found him. He is a true master teacher!

Love it. Steve presents things well, and this old fella is loving it. Always played by ear and too lazy to get serious, but now playing bass (we didn't have one!) in an old fellas band playing all the 60's and 70's stuff, I'm finding things so much easier and able to adapt and experiment a bit.
Suffered a stroke four years ago, have taken up building guitars and bass's and I am finding the music and playing doing wonders for the recovery process. Memory is back, improving and I'm lovin' it! Thanks guys!

It was a nice way to open my eyes to theory and made me realize that it's so much easier when you have an understanding of what you are doing! Steve has a way of explaining that is so helpful! There is only one problem with this made me want to learn even more! Thanks Steve!

When I first got into guitar in the 70's I did what most do. I learned a few chords. I Learned songs through book. I had no idea about the music theory. Steve has a way of teaching that a Babby Can understand. But What's so amazing is that he does it in such a way that you don't feel like a baby., I am glad that I bought Music Theory in 60 minutes. Out of all the teachers on the internet Steve is the only one that inspires me.

First…Thank You so much to Steve.
Your exercises are with me every day, including the ones for the body.
When I was a teacher, in the 70’s and 80’s, I used the guitar when we were singing songs. For so many years thereafter it mostly hang on the wall.
9 months ago I bought me a Strat and have practiced your good exercises every day since. Before I did never use a pick, now I’m so happy to use it.
I’ve always felt theory and notes and all that sooo boring.
But what you gave me about pentatonic, diatonic and cromatic scale is so useful.
The connection between the names of chords and the notes on the E - and A strings….. and the chords (major and minor) that are relevant together….is an eye opener to me.
I do exercises, play songs, love your Gilmoure lics, and the guitar has become like a meditation praxis to me.
    So thank you, Steve.

I honestly can't call this course "a lot of fun" but that's because of the subject matter. But you need it! Steve makes a lot of light bulbs go off in the heads of anyone who has not had much exposure to music theory--and why it matters to your progressing to be a better musician. Glad I bought it, and I recommend it!

Really enjoy Steve's teaching simplicity. Makes it easy for anyone to understand and learn quickly. Having played off and on most of my life (more off than on) a lot of this was a refresher course for me. Excellent course for beginners as well as those of us who need a jump start to get back in to playing.

I am a beginning guitar player... and an engineer. So, just learning to play - although a challenge to be sure - is a goal, I also have a desire to understand. So I needed a foundation of theory that would help me make sense of what I was learning / trying to do on my guitar. Steve's 'Theory in 60 minutes' was the perfect course to scratch that itch. He has a talent for teaching that makes learning the basics of music theory easy as it relates to the guitar. The one hour format makes this useful without being over-cooked and short enough to be a reference / refresher, too. I have done that and had several 'ah-ha' moments as a result.
