No worries, GuitarZoom’s got your back!

Today we’re gonna show you the sharp 9th chord in the barre chord (barre = bar) form. That implies that you can move it all across the fretboard and still get the desired chord in different keys.

Building a Hendrix Chord from scratch:

Just for the sake of explaining, let’s make an E sharp 9 chord.

To play this one, put your middle finger on the 7th fret of the 5th string. Add your index finger on the 6th fret of the 4th string. Your ring finger goes on the 7th fret of the 3rd string.

Lastly, put your pinky on the 8th fret of the 2nd string.

As far as your picking hand goes, strum across strings 5 to 1.

You can use this shape and move it anywhere on the 5th string and you will get the 9th chord in different keys.

Jimi Hendrix chord Guitar practice tips:

  1. When placing your fingers to play the Hendrix chord, make sure that you are behind the fret wire. Also, barre’s aside, make sure that you are pressing the strings with your fingertips.

  2. You can use what we have explained in the ‘’Building a Hendrix Chord from scratch’’ section to create sharp 9 chords all across the 5th string.
